Shops of Wailea Parking Information

With much anticipation and some lively debate among tenants, guests, and the local community, on June 12th The Shops of Wailea introduced paid parking to all those who enter the premises - much to the chagrin of many. The purpose of this post is to share relevant information regarding the new parking system and process, NOT to debate the pros/cons of paid parking at The Shops of Wailea.

Overview

shops at wailea parking stationThere are two main entrance and exit stations, both on Wailea Alanui Dr which are the same points of ingress/egress as has been in the past, and there will be an exit-only gate on the northern edge of the property (the ramp leading towards the Marriott). To facilitate payment and assistance, there will be five pay stations, located along each of the two main exits on each side of the building and one near the Longhi's ramp towards the Wailea Beach Villas property.

Process

Upon entering, each vehicle will be required to obtain a sequentially numbered mag-striped ticket. At time of exit, the guest then can visit the pay station to determine the amount owed based on time of visit and choose one of the three payment options:

  • Validation Ticket - Parking may be validated by any of the mall stores, with each establishment implementing their own policy as to the dollar amount or service required in order to obtain a validation sticker. Each validation sticker is valid for 3 hours of parking. If the time of parking is more than the 3 hour validated period, then the guest is responsible for the remainder of the fee. A new ticket will be dispensed which is to be used for exiting.
  • Cash - Pay the required parking fee with cash. A ticket will be dispensed, use it upon exiting.
  • Credit Card - Upon successfully charging the parking fees on a credit card, a new ticket will be dispensed for exiting.

There is a 20 minute grace period from the time an exit ticket is disbursed by a pay station to actually exit the parking lot.

For those who choose NOT to use the pay station, payment can then be made at the exiting station but only credit cards will be accepted.  The exit stations are NOT staffed, so please keep that in mind.

Rates

The published rates at the time of this writing are $3 per 1/2 hour or a flat rate of $40 per day. However, there is a 20 minute grace period during which no charges are accrued, perfect for quick drop offs, fast run-ins to get a coffee, etc. Vendors may receive a 'chaser ticket' at the parking office, which will then allow them to exit the parking lot without incurring any fees - these tickets are at the discretion of management. Employee rates have been a hot topic of debate but are seemingly fair and consistent with parking regulations at other paid parking areas.

Wailea on Wednesday (WOW) is among the most popular scheduled events on Maui and draws regular crowds, with some high influxes on special nights. The entertainment, sampled food, and overall atmosphere make WOW one of the most well-attended weekly events. To accommodate the popular WOW following, the donation of a non-perishable food item or a $1 fee will provide WOW guests with a validation sticker.
