Wailea is home to some of the most exclusive condominiums and single-family subdivisions on Maui. As one of the world's premiere destinations, Wailea has earned a reputation as a strong long-term equity market - in many ways immune to economic downturns (and its reflecting distressed real estate market, which in Wailea has been virtually non-existing). Condominiums range from entry-level units in Grand Champions and Wailea Ekahi starting in the $600K's and can extend upwards of $10M, with some Wailea Beach Villas units breaking the mark. Homes can range from original Wailea Kai single-family residences built in the 1980's, to the epitome of luxury living at Wailea Highlands and the only beachfront Wailea single-family subdivison in Maluhia at Wailea. Statistics
Below please find relevant statistics for the Wailea real estate market. Of course, keep in mind that proper context must be taken when reviewing statistics as in a small micro-market like Wailea, a couple of sales on either the high-end or low-end of the spectrum can skew final numbers. Beaches
Featuring some of the most revered beaches in the world and year-round enjoyable weather, Wailea has become a Mecca for those looking for a luxury-resort setting in a tropical Hawaiian paradise. So without further ado, all the Wailea beaches, starting from the North:
Keawakapu - My personal favorite beach in all of Hawaii, Keawakapu consists of expansive golden sand, calm waters conducive to most water sports, and picture-perfect sunsets. Although technically this beach starts in Kihei, it marks the perfect transition into the luxury Wailea resort. Beachfront ownership on this beach does not come cheaply - the most recent sale was $23M for an unlisted property. Condominiums vary from Mana Kai on the northern edge, to Hale Hui Kai, to Wailea Ekahi.
Mokapu / Ulua - At one time, these two were distinct, separate beaches but the foilage separating them has been removed to present a premier Maui beach that remains relatively isolated. Walk from Keawakapu to the Grand Wailea, passing Ulua and Mokapu. Fronted by the Wailea Elua Village and the Andaz Maui, this is a popular beach among residents due to the relatively low density yet picture perfect beach and consistent weather.
Wailea Beach - Having won numerous awards as one of the best beaches in the world, including 'Best Beach' in Dr. Beach's annual list, Wailea Beach sets a befitting stage for one of the most luxurious resorts in the world: Grand Wailea. With calm waters, postcard-perfect sandy beaches, and seemingly eternal sunshine, Wailea Beach has become a playground for the world's most affluent, dignitaries, and celebrities - yet it remains as a family-favorite: Maui's perfect beach with Aloha. The Wailea Beach Villas call this tropical paradise its anchor setting.
Polo Beach - On the southern tip of Wailea, as it leads in Makena, Polo Beach is arguably THE most under-rated beach in all of Maui. Many a day one can find himself seemingly all alone, with one of Maui's best beaches as his playground. With the Fairmont Kea Lani on the north and the Polo Beach Club as its namesake beachfront property, this is a must-visit Wailea beach. Some consider Polo Beach technically NOT in Wailea, but it's a point to argue another (sunny) day.
Golf Courses
Maui is home to some of the best golf courses in the world and Wailea has its share with three championship-grade courses earning its reputation as 'Championing Champions'. As the epitome of luxe living, Wailea offers Hawaii's premier golf resort, think of it as 54 holes of golfing with Aloha.
Old Blue: Designed by Arthur Jack Snyder, 'Old Blue' is a comparatively short length which imposes its challenges via topography. Be ready for uphill shots and downhill rolls. As one of Maui's easiest courses, it provides an ideal setting for a picture-perfect day of golf in the sun. The club house was moved within recent years and golf course flow changed. View our map above for the most accurate and updated information.
Emerald: A crown jewel in the arsenal of Robert Trent Jones II, the Emerald course is affectionately referred to as Maui's best course for ladies. The par 5's are particularly long, while the par 3's and 4's are shortened, the fairways are relatively wide, and tee shots get a friendly roll.
Gold: Another RT II masterpiece, the Gold course is the most challenging of the Wailea courses. Staying on the fairways is critical as kiawe trees and lava border most of the course. With a few sharp doglegs, players must anticipate and play through, while the roughs are relatively short.
