Exploring Kihei's Food Truck Scene

The booming food truck trend has been revolutionizing the food scene across the US for a decade and it is continuing to evolve on Maui, with current trucks slinging everything from acai bowls to Thai food and everything in between. In the small but bustling town of Kihei, on the south side of Maui, there has been an ever-expanding array of food trucks. Spending some time exploring our sleepy beach town and then find a food truck to satisfy every craving.

Kihei Food Truck - Kitoko

Starting off the south side food truck tour is one of the most popular locations for both locals and visitors to experience true food truck cuisine: Kihei Station, located at 1 Piikea Avenue (diagonal from Long's). There is a small community of food trucks where there are many incredible options to choose from, including vegan dining, Asian fusion, drive-through coffee, barbecue, and more! These food trucks are owned locally and reflect the array of cultures that can be found throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Whether you want a grab-and-go meal or if you prefer to sit down and relax, this one-stop food truck spot is perfect for anyone. As a caveat, our absolute favorite food truck in all of Maui is at this location, it is a Japanese-fusion culinary take that we can't get enough off, Kitoko! Try it and you will not think of food trucks the same.

Moving further south into the heart of Kihei, there is a new up-and-coming food truck park located just off of South Kihei Road, across from Kalama Park. This slowly growing area features two local food trucks, Maui Ono Donuts and Brekkie Bowls. Maui Ono Donuts has quickly garnered a reputation for its freshly made glutten-free, vegan donuts while Brekkie Bowls serves acai bowls made from locally sourced ingredients. These trucks are within walking distance from Kihei's best beaches such as Charlie Young Beach and directly across the street from Kihei's anchor, Kalama Park.

If you're looking for a more substantial meal to satisfy your hunger, there are many options to choose from at the Aloha Market Place. South Maui Fish Company has a menu that changes daily based on availability. They always serve up freshly caught fish served traditionally as poke and in many other ways! Another favorite food truck among diehard locals in Kihei is Horhitos Mobile Taqueria. This "hole in the wall" food truck located just across Kalama Beach Park, serves up street-style tacos and a wide variety of other Mexican dishes.
